The week before Christmas was a busy week for both of us with evening meetings for week, social parties, and a little weekend trip to DC to visit Lauren. I think we are purposefully trying to be really social in anticipation for the arrival, and it is also preparing us for a new life of busy schedules and little alone time.

Tuesday night there was a work dinner at Florio’s in Little Italy, which if you are a smoker living in the smoker-be-damned city of NYC, this would be your safe haven. For a pregnant woman it was mostly hell. They sell cigars at the bar and usually the smoking is only allowed in the front room. This particular evening the entire restaurant was smoking, despite the NO SMOKING signs on all four walls. Luckily, no one at our table was smoking, but each time someone lit up a Camel or rekindled their stinking pooh-roll, an evil eye was given. Luckily, I had one of the nicest committee members sitting near me so the conversation was good. And even luckier, I had somewhere else to be so I bolted early for the Big Nose Full Body Christmas party at the new wine bar. Dave made smoked suckling pig and other stuff and I wish I had not eaten at Florio’s because his food was amazing. It felt really nice to be in the wine bar that Aaron and company have been working on opening for around 7 months.

The week ended with a weekend trip down to Washington, D.C. to visit Lauren. Jon had a full weekend planned out with a crazy Russian work party in Brighton and a Williamsburg bender that ended with him, thankfully, taking a car home instead of walking home, through some not so hot neighborhoods. Even though winter weather was upon us, luckily I made it out of LaGuardia on time and arrived safe in DC. Lauren was delayed coming back from Aspen so I acquainted myself with her amazing apartment by watching one of her, I think, 4 TV’s. In college the TV was always on CNN or something, so I should have thought. We had a great time relaxing, catching up, dinner at Eric Ripert’s bistro, West End, taking a long walk to the White House, and going to the National Gallery. Oddly enough, the baby’s favorite moment was when I was standing in line at McDonald’s in the airport waiting for a snack of chicken nuggets. Their commercials worked on me since I thought I would give nuggets another try, but, again, nuggets are always a huge disappointment. The flight was just fine for us both and we even got in 30 minutes ahead of schedule.
